18 species returned around 2:00 AM on 3/10!
2011.03.11March 10, 2011, at approximately 2:00 a.m. (Japan time),
Seeds of 18 different plants launched to the International Space Station as part of the "Space Education Project(R),
It returned safely to Kennedy Space Center!
In response to this, we will hold a press conference on March 15, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. to present the seeds in space and to explain our future educational and community revitalization activities using these seeds. We hope you will be able to attend.
On seeds of returned plants
The seeds returned from space this time are those launched on May 15, 2010 and those launched on February 25, 2011. The seeds launched on February 25, 2011 include those that went missing on May 13, 2010 (announced by JAXA) and were re-launched. According to the final report from JAXA on November 11, 2010, the seeds that went missing have not been found to this day, and according to the final report from JAXA on November 11, 2010, it is highly likely that the seeds were lost due to some human error, although the direct cause is unknown, and the search has now been terminated.
