Okinawan Turmeric Goes to Space

2010.05.13
Okinawan Turmeric Goes to Space.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that the space shuttle Discovery (STS-128) was launched to the International Space Station at 23:59 U.S. Eastern Daylight Time on August 28 (12:59 p.m. Japan time on August 29).

As the only company selected for the second Kibo paid use, RIVANES has launched Okinawan turmeric rhizomes and is implementing the "Second Space Education Project," a program to use them in educational programs and nutrition education activities.

Space Turmeric Project: Message

People who have dreams and goals will spare no effort. Like astronauts, I want to convey to Okinawan high school students the importance of having dreams, such as what they like to do and what they would like to do in the future. Through this space education project, I have also been able to realize my dream of launching turmeric, which I have been breeding in Okinawa, into space and cultivating space turmeric. I hope that the children of Okinawa will also use this opportunity to have dreams.
