Call for Participating Schools in the FY2022 Yumechikara Cultivation Research Program is now open!

In the Dream Chikara Cultivation Research Program,Domestic wheat "Yumechikara" from Hokkaido will be grown in planters at the school to observe growth conditions, analyze data, conduct experiments, and research optimal cultivation methods in order to grow high quality wheat with high yield and protein content.
Through research and the experience of making food for yourself and another person other than yourself, the program is designed to make you aware of where the food you eat every day comes from, by whom, and how it was made, and to discover yourself living in connection with others.

Now in its 11th year, this program will continue to evolve the past programs, and while continuing the online version of the program introduced in FY2020, we will begin accepting applications for the new "Wheat Challenge Schools". We are looking forward to receiving your research ideas!

Schools to be recruited in 2022

Subject matter research school:
 You will work on a research project on cultivation of Yumechikara, focusing on the relationship between fertilizer application and yield. In addition to Yumechikara seeds, we will provide you with a research fee (70,000 yen) to purchase planters, growing soil, fertilizer, etc., and a manual describing how to grow the plants. Your coach will support your research through regular online mentoring.

Wheat Challenge School:
 We are accepting applications for all topics related to the cultivation of domestic wheat, with a focus on Yumechikara. We will provide Yumechikara seeds, a research grant (20,000 yen), and a manual describing how to grow them.
Examples of research topics
Study of fertilizer effects on growth, yield, and protein content of wheat
Improvement of wheat germination rate
Research on automation and labor saving in wheat cultivation
Research to prevent wheat pests and plant diseases, etc.

In addition, schools that were not selected as "Theme Research Schools" or "Wheat Challenge Schools" are eligible to participate in this program.Free Research SchoolsWe will certify them as Free research schools will also be provided with Yumechikara seeds and a manual describing how to grow them.

Details of the 2022 Recruitment
Research period: September 2022 - September 2023
Target districts: Junior high schools, high schools, and technical colleges (up to 3rd year) throughout Japan
Number of adoptions:Research schools: 3 schools
     Wheat Challenge Schools: 5
     Free research schools: about 40 schools
Conditions for participation: (1) Must have an environment that allows independent cultivation research to proceed.
     (2) Be able to submit implementation reports and questionnaires.
     (iii) Be prepared to participate in online events and workshops.
Application Deadline:Research Schools: Friday, July 29, 18:00
     Wheat Challenge School: Friday, July 29, 18:00
     Free Research School: Friday, August 26, 18:00
