Training for teachers "Challenge to screen useful microorganisms!
2015.12.04Dr. Satoshi Omura of Kitasato University, winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, was the first in the world to discover microorganisms producing the antibiotic ivermectin in the soil of Shizuoka Prefecture, saving 200 million people from the threat of blindness. Microorganisms are found not only in soil, but also in rivers, seashores, and all other places on the earth. There is a great possibility that useful microorganisms can be found in your immediate surroundings. Why don't you make the screening of useful microorganisms the theme of your research project? By using different sample collection locations and culture conditions, the types of microorganisms that can be found can be varied, so each team can create a unique research project.
