Start now when school is out! Explore research topics for the new school year
2020.04.14Hello! I am sure that many of you students are spending your days at home because of the school closure due to the spread of the coronavirus. On this page, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you three steps that you can take to get a head start on your exploratory activities while staying at home!
STEP 1
Watch a video introducing our research themes
Not sure where to start? If that's the case, take a look at Science Castle TV. We have collected exciting videos to make the appeal of science and the fun of research more accessible to many middle and high school students, and to make them want to know more and try it for themselves, so you can all watch and learn about the direction of your own interests.
-Video title excerpts
Why does the microwave oven make only water hot?
Sonic analysis to bring out 100% of the power of the "triangle" percussion instrument
Hand-push the car with paper that slides well.
and more, with appearances by middle and high school student researchers, venture company researchers, and RIVANES staff to deliver science in an easy-to-understand manner.

STEP 2
Try to set the direction of your research
Once you have seen a variety of videos and have a sense of where your interests are headed, it is time to shape your interests. Join us on the web to learn how to generate ideas using multiple methods.
What we recommend here is Mandalat. Mandalat is derived from the Buddhist mandala pattern, and is a tool for organizing and expanding ideas and deepening thinking by making cells that look like a mandala pattern and writing ideas in each of the cells.
Use mandalas to define the direction of your interests.
All you need is a large piece of paper with a 9✕9 grid on it. Let's give it a try!
〜How to create a ~research mandala
First, put the thing or things you are interested in in the center.
2. write around things and things related to the things and things you are interested in
⇒One can slide the object of interest as it is ・Even if the cells are not completely filled
3. expand to the surrounding squares.
4. Create "questions" Create questions for the central object or thing
⇒ In the "I want to know" direction: Why? How much? How?
⇒ In the case of "want to make" direction: Can you make a □□□ that does ◯◯◯?
(Either ◯◯ or □□ is related to 1 in the center.)
5. review the whole
If you repeat this step, you will have up to 64 "questions" in a single mandalat. From among them, the ones that excite you and make you think, "I want to try it! and "Can I do it? and "Can I do it?
STEP 3
Find out what research middle and high school student researchers have actually done.
Once you have a sense of interest and direction from the first two steps, it is time to dig deeper into your research. To do this, look through the abstracts of the "Science Castle," a conference for junior and senior high school students that has been held since 2012. You will be able to see the research themes and research content that the same junior and senior high school student researchers as you are working on.
Science Castle abstracts from the past six years are(Please click here)From. Do a keyword search on a topic that interests you! There is this kind of research! I didn't know they did this kind of experiment! and knowing about past research will help you to think more concretely about your own research theme and the content of your experiments.
Liberace is always willing to support research activities of middle and high school students!

I look forward to seeing you all at this year's Science Castle!
